DUBLIN, IRELAND. European low cost carrier Ryanair today made an announcement that it seeks to obtain slots to the red planet, by sole virtue of having made this announcement.
In a surprising move which leapfrogs the accepted primary or secondary acquisition of slots, Ryanair is sure that the international space community will honor the dibs call, effectively guaranteeing the enterprising carrier the right to be allocated the slots once the system is in place.
“We haven’t developed the Low Cost Interplanetary Travel Concept commercially yet,” noted Ryanair Ground and Space Operations Manager Charlie O’Santos, “besides the fact that there isn’t an authority to regulate such trips. Nor airports to land to. Nor a habitable atmosphere on Mars. But we believe in having a first mover advantage and Mars is definitely the next frontier.”
